After a 14-year hiatus, Southern hip-hop group, Goodie Mob took center stage at JFK airport as part of Jet Blue’s Live from T5 intimate concert series experience. All original group members, Big Gipp, Khujo, T-Mo, and Grammy award-winning artist CeeLo Green, came together to perform some of their classic hits including “Dance No Mo”, “Soul Food,” and newest single “Special Education” featuring Janelle Monae. CeeLo even busted out into a milder rendition of his hit single “Crazy”. The group never sounded better.

To celebrate their reunion, press and contest winners were also treated to a #goodiebus that had us riding in style to the Jet Blue terminal, with their new album, Age Against the Machine, as the soundtrack. After the show, fans and the press were treated to a photo opportunity with the group. Check out some of the pictures from last night’s event below.

Age Against the Machine is in stores now.

With roots from the streets of Colombia all the way to the state of Virginia, my next guest is an artist you didn’t see coming and she likes it that way. Doing whatever she wants, 19 year old singer, rapper, and director, Kali Uchis, gives off a fearless yet rebellious IDGAF approach to her style and we like it. Currently working on new music under the Hollafame label imprint, Kali’s buzz continues to grow as she readies a fall release. The singer stops by to chat her upcoming EP, major artist collaborations, and her “What They Say” single getting co-signed by Snoop Lion. Plus I run down the OTR (Off the Record) Report including personal tidbits and my backstage recap of the 2013 MTV VMAs. Listen to the archived episode here.

PODCAST EPISODE: Eccentric Baby Names…Lifetime of Ridicule or Success?

Posted in Current Events, News, Podcasts with tags , , , , , , , , , , on August 23, 2013 by Georgette Pierre

From Blue Ivy (Jay Z and Beyonce) and North (Kanye and Kim K) to Apple (Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin) and Jermajesty (Jermaine Jackson), celebrities are taking baby names to a new level. But what about the children who aren’t born to wealthy and/or famous parents? How will their name affect them growing up? How will their name affect them in the workforce? Studies show that racial bias still exists in hiring especially when it comes to “commonly used” African-American names. Delving more into specifics, my guests, Jennifer Moss, author of “The One-in-a-Million Baby Name Book” and curator of and Tami Cook, a licensed make up artist and aesthetician, who decided to shorten her name because of her profession, join me to discuss their take on the baby naming phenomenon and whether that can truly determine the success of a child.

So you got the verse back from Kendrick and didn’t change yours, my dude youre crzay. This is the biggest moment in Hip-Hop this year and you could have had something to do about it. Instead everyone is talking about Kendrick. Your bad. I mean it is your song and you did have a dope verse but still Kendrick outshined you. Nontheless you’re a part of Hip Hop. Here’s an excerpt from the interview on what he Big Sean intended for the song,

“I knew what it was for the culture of hip-hop. You see how excited people are, and I wanted to do that for music—make that play happen. It gave me like the feeling of how hip-hop was. How it used to be.”

Find out below in an interview with Vibe Magazine on what happened with the control song not being on the HOF album, how he felt when he heard Kendrick’s verse, how he’s a real OG, and much more.

J. Cole Announces “What Dreams May Come Tour” with Wale

Posted in Current Events, Hip-Hop, J. Cole, News, Wale with tags , , , , , , , , , , on August 1, 2013 by Georgette Pierre

It seems like J. Cole isn’t too far behind his music counterpart, Drake, on the interesting tour name choices. In June, Drake announced his “Would You Like a Tour” featuring Miguel. Now J. Cole’s Dreamvillain blog confirmed his upcoming “What Dreams May Come Tour” featuring Wale. The 30-city North American tour (with two dates listed as TBA) will kick off September 10th in Miami and carry through the beginning of November.

Cole has also been in the news as of late, celebrating his single “Power Trip” featuring Miguel, hitting the platinum mark and his second album, Born Sinner, going gold in its second week. In the same month, autism advocates criticized the Fayetteville rapper for his distasteful lyric in “Jodeci Freestyle”, a collaborative song with Drake, that lead the Roc Nation signee to apologize via his Dreamvillain blog. Drake issued his own apology a day later sharing in the responsibility as well as stating removal of the lyric.

Check out tour dates below.
